Glenturret Sherry Cask Edition
SINGLE MALT WHISKY
The Glenturret is actually one of the more accessible distilleries in Scotland, being only an hour’s drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and just ten minutes from Perth. So it’s surprising to learn that the location was previously used to conceal an illicit distilling operation that was the precursor to The Glenturret as far back as 250 years ago. This is the the foundation of The Glenturret’s claim of being the oldest working distillery in Scotland, a claim that is contested by one or two other older operations.
The distillery was originally known as ‘Thurot’, later becoming ‘Hosh’ when it came in to the possession of the Drummond family. ‘Hosh’ comes from the Gaelic ‘cois’, meaning foot. It was only in 1875, when Thomas Stewart took over the distillery, that the name was changed to Glenturret.
The Glenturret Sherry Cask Edition features unpeated spirit exclusively matured in European oak
Sherry seasoned casks. This edition is crafted in small batches with less than 60 casks hand selected to create each batch.
We will be hosting our usual live tasting at 8pm on the 18th February, where WHISKY ME co-founder Tristan, will be joined by The Glenturret’s global ambassador Jamie Morrison. This will be streamed through our YouTube and Facebook channels simultaneously and viewers are encouraged to ask any questions they may have about the whisky, or whisky in general.
Remember you can also use the WHISKY ME Alexa skill to learn more about this month’s dram. Just ask Alexa to ‘open whisky me’.
